![]() There are a total of 24 master spirits in the game. Master spirits are considered Neutral types when used by puppet fighters in Spirit Battles. Master spirits have dialogue boxes, though certain spirits (such as Kraid) communicate unintelligibly and therefore have provided translations. These facilities include Shop (which sells spirits, items, and Skill Spheres), Gym (which level up spirits), Explore (which bring back rewards), and Dojo (which teach styles to spirits). Once unlocked, master spirits will run one of four types of facilities in World of Light. ![]() WoL made the right choice playing to Smash's strengths by emphasizing just how weird, quirky and fun its fighting can be.Master spirits are spirits that are obtained exclusively through World of Light, with the exception of Timmy & Tommy, which can also be unlocked with their Amiibo. The pace of the levels is slow and plodding, and the enemies that you do fight simply aren't that interesting or engaging. It may be shorter, but I find it wears itself thin even faster than WoL does. Subspace had some cool cutscenes and not much else really. The RPG mechanics with Spirits and the collectathon nature of them are also strangely addicting. It doesn't work all of the time, but far more often than not they manage to capture the heart of those characters despite the limitations present. ![]() I also find myself constantly surprised and impressed by how inventive they get with the Spirit battles simply by modifying battle conditions. It's lesser focus on narrative allows for a lot more freedom in how you progress through it, and the puzzles/interactive elements make the world that the characters inhabit feel much more alive than it did in Subspace. The World of Light feels a lot more fulfilling to me.
